Iran’s Shiraz promotes UNESCO martial arts

Iran hosts the 4th UNESCO-Listed Martial Arts Promotion Committee Meeting in Fars Province.

At the closing ceremony of the event, which was held at the Martyr Dastgheib Stadium in Shiraz city, UNESCO-inscribed martial arts performances were presented to the audience.

The participants in the performances included martial artists from Iran, South Korea, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Indonesia, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Iraq.

In 2010, UNESCO inscribed Iran’s Pahlevani and Zoorkhanei rituals on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Pahlevani is an Iranian martial art that combines elements of Islam and ancient Persian beliefs.
